The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council is thrilled to announce that it will showcase Region 8 artist and arts community icon Edmund Williamson in a retrospective exhibition at its gallery located at 118 Cotton Street in Downtown West Monroe from June 6th - July 3rd. The opening reception will take place Thursday June 6th, 2024 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, in conjunction with the Downtown Gallery Crawl.

Edmund Williamson is a name that's recognized both in and outside of the Region 8 arts community. A renowned visual artist and friend to many, Edmund set out to bring art access to the community through his large, vibrant public sculptures and installations. His sculptures, like the retired Dragonfly of Forsythe Park, have long been anchoring landmarks in our regional public spaces. In addition to his larger-than-life community sculptures, the multifaceted artist was also known for his paintings, portraits, graphic design, murals and more. His works grace the walls of homes, museums, and businesses across the country. When he passed away in 2009, he left behind a body of work as visually impressive as it is beloved by the community. His legacy is woven into the very heart of the Region 8 arts community. There just wasn't anyone quite like Edmund Williamson.

The exhibition will feature works on loan from private collectors, friends, and family across the Region. In addition, a virtual gallery will be housed on the Arts Council's website in the coming months that will feature these works, as well as other works from across the country that were unable to be featured in the live exhibition. Opening reception is Thursday June 6th, 2024, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, in conjunction with the Downtown Gallery Crawl. There will be a time of sharing at 6:30pm as we hear from those who knew Edmund best.
