The four most iconic notes ever written astound in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67.  Hear this musical manifestation of fate – a cornerstone of the symphonic canon – in all its grandeur.  In addition, pianist and Stricklin Emerging Artist Winner Joseph Kingma mesmerizes with Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16.

Louisiana Delta Ballet: Coppelia

Louisiana Delta Ballet presents Coppelia. Set in a European village, Swanhilda sees her fiance’ throwing kisses at Coppelia. Swanhilda soon learns that Coppelia is actually a doll that belongs to Doctor Coppelius, the local toy maker.  She decides to impersonate the doll, in order to win the love of Franz.  This charming classical ballet is for children and the children at heart.

Monroe Symphony Orchestra – International Journey

“International Journey” featuring Eugene Osadchy, cello     (The Assembly, West Monroe)

Enjoy a journey around the world with music from France, Austria, Russia, and America. Cellist Eugene Osadchy, hailed as having “the most refined and balanced string playing” by the New York Times, performs American composer Claire Fischer’s Suite for Cello and Orchestra. In addition, the MSO performs Ravel’s nostalgic music from the fairy tales of Mother Goose, Stravinsky’s delightful Suite No. 2 for Small Orchestra, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 60 in C Major “Il Distratto” – full of pranks and surprises!

Mandy Harvey finished fourth on America’s Got Talent in 2017 and was Simon Cowell’s “golden ticket” selection.

Masur Exhibit Closes

“Richard Buswell: Close to Home” is a stunning black and white photography series by Richard Buswell, examining up-close the abandoned artifacts of Montana’s ghost towns and frontier homesteads. This exhibition was organized by the Montana Museum of Art & Culture at the University of Montana, Missoula, MT.

“En plein air: The Artist and The Natural World” will look at the ever-influential relationship between art and nature, illustrated with works from the Permanent Collection of the Masur Museum of Art.

Both exhibitions will be on display Nov. 1, 2018 – Feb 9, 2019 and admission is always free!

Louisiana Delta Ballet: A Christmas Carol

Strauss Theatre presents Cottonland Christmas – Christmas on the River – Celebrations Across Louisiana.

Everybody celebrates Christmas, but in Louisiana, Christmas is a colorful, diverse and unique celebration. Up and down the highways and byways of our state, the people of our state gather around rivers, bayous and lakes to celebrate Christmas in many cultural ways with wonderful variety. Our 2018 Cottonland Christmas presentation will highlight the diversity of our state as we travel up the rivers of our state celebrating Christmas Louisiana-style.

Returning to a tradition started years ago by Strauss, we celebrate the Christmas season in “Cottonland Christmas” featuring area soloists, ensembles, and dance groups, all sharing the joys of the season. Come get in the spirit of Christmas!

Cottonland Christmas is at 7 p.m. December 7, 8, 10, and at 2 p.m. December 9.
